heritage addition with arthouse architects

A small 1890’s heritage-listed worker’s cottage was a well-loved home for a growing family of 5. A modern extension referencing the original form provided much needed additional space while the existing cottage was carefully renovated to retain and elevate its original character. The threshold between the two was delineated by a compression in volume and a delicate transition in detailing. The house now welcomes guests through the unassuming traditional entry, opening onto a dramatic open plan living area marked by playful and unexpected interventions that complement the clients’ beautifully curated eclectic art collection.
